Acromegaly: from biology to treatment

In recent years, advances in the field of genetics and molecular biology have considerably increased our knowledge on the etiopathogenesis of several endocrine disorders, while also conditioning, in some cases, therapeutic strategies.
On this basis, the event has the aim of updating participants on the latest biomolecular and clinical acquisitions on acromegaly.
Therefore, the event will be structured as follows:
– On the first day, topics related to the biology of GH-secreting pituitary adenomas, such as molecular and genetic pathogenesis, pathological aspects, the biology of aggressive pituitary tumours and resistance to medical therapy will be discussed.
– On the second day, clinical aspects will be examined with medical, surgical, radiological and radiotherapy considerations also in light of the data that will be presented on the first day. A lecture will be dedicated to the new directives that the European Society of Endocrinology and the Pituitary Society intend to provide to facilitate the referral of these patients to specialist centers and to standardize their therapeutic management. The event is part of the Master university course on the Diagnosis and therapy of pituitary disorders (2017) – Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore.
